Reports 2010 season.
Wadi Kerak:
4th april 2011:
new anchors on the first abseil set in the water.
3rd September 2010:
The reachable anchors are still being attacked, we lost the anchors on the 4th fall but we installed two new ones. On the 5th and last fall we added another one to make sure the rope dosn't hit anything.
20th March 2010:
The canyon has suffered many changes due to massive flash floods this season. A new fall has formed by the movement of a massive rock right after the forth waterfall. After the third fall the bridge of wood has been washed away, keep an eye on the 3 rocks on the left that indicate the alternative safer way but with a small jump.
Before the forth, a small rock dry slide also was formed by floods pushing a big rock in a narrow area in the canyon nothing serious slide it and enjoy it.
We installed two big ring chemical anchors on the left of the 3rd fall and a small bridge on the right to keep the rope with minimum friction.
The 4th fall has two stonge natural anchors one directly before the rock on the right and the other one is a drill hole we made exactly two meters behind.
On the 5th and last fall there are two natural anchors, but we will bolt something decent for the ropes.
The first water fall has too many broken anchors, we bolted a double anchor on the right but took it off two weeks later because it was too weak, and decided to clean all the broken anchors on the right of the fall with painted siqadur. This fall will be rapped with natural anchors there is plenty of big rock and for those who don't know, the big white rock on the left on the down looking face there is a small hole we made with the drill where you can put a cordill or a 8mm sling. Otherwise enjoy the wadi. Now for the 4th waterfall we added a new bolt on the left of the big massive due to the aggressive friction on the right, this abseil is no more than 10m and the rope is friction free.
Wadi Assal:
1st April 2010:
This one has easen a bit, the floods did not change the number of falls but it did cut down on the number of hard boulders to declimb.
Our chemical anchors on the first fall where smashed down but there is still space for a ring mallion or sling to use them. The second fall anchors are intact the 3rd needs new slings. The fort is still a natural anchor. The 5th, our two solid anchors on the right are still there.
After the first contact with water there was an unconfortable slid on the bamboos in a deep pond, well no more it's an easy dry slide, the first wet fall its better to use the nutural anchor in the fall on the right. If they didn't steal the sling.
The last and nicest fall which they keep breaking our anchors has two very nice rocks right before the fall that are solid and safe but might harm the rope, on the left where all the anchors keep getting smashed there is a nice v shape crack where you can jam a knot.
After that there are two declimbs that you can easy find nice hand hold on the upper rock and a perfect foot holds under the rock. After that there is a small new pool travers on the left of it and jam a not on the flack coming out on the left to go down, do not jump in the pool its not deep enough, don't mind the first long bumpy slide the pool at the end is not so deep. Now the after that you have two slides (the last fully wet spot) the first fall is a very nice slide deep enough to slide it.
after that enjoy the 3 to 4 hours walk there was a wet jump on the way well no more. so enjoy Assal.
Wadi Hasa:
13th March 2010
Not much change the first part has become deeper but no new surprises and the long part is still as beautiful
Wadi Zarqa Maain upper part:
april 2011:
second pool non swimable any more. anchors and wadi remain tha same
25 march 2010:
Not much changed in the anchors on the falls are perfect still. the small abseil before the second fall is falling inside a mudy pool, a bit uncomfortable. the pool between the two falls is no longer as deep(you ll get your bum wet)
but after a short hike after the second fall you will get wet.
Wadi Mukhaires:
6th may 2011:
its 3 abseils now first two are natural anchors and after the second abseil wondefull pools. the last abseil has now 3 bolts.
4th March 2010:
It has become flat and nicer and easier to hike from the bottom up with less boulders and more steps. the dry hike to bypass the big fall is more accessable and easier.
Wadi feid/sakakin:
10th April 2010:
Anchors are still fine no changes what so ever
Wadi himara:
6th may 2011
first watefall still with one rope on the first abseil 2 bolts on the second and 3 on the 3rd.
the second waterfall has 2 bolts on the top and 2bolts 20m into the watefall and another 2 30m into the waterfall.
